Please be advised of the following information in relation to membership applications for overseas-qualified clinicians with the ACAud inc. HAASA.
Qualification Requirements:
- Full Member – Intern (audiologist) – Must hold a minimum Masters Degree in Audiology
- Full Member – Intern (audiometrist) – Must hold a minimum Diploma in Audiometry
Online Membership Application Process:
- Click ‘Join‘ on the navigation bar
- Select ‘FULL MEMBER – INTERN’ and click ‘Next’.
- Complete all the fields and upload supporting documentation in required fields (certified copies of degrees, academic transcripts, full visa confirmation application approval, ACADEMIC IELTS* (minimum overall band score of 7 with no individual score below 6.5).
- * Academic PTE (minimum overall band score of 66 with no individual score below 56) and TOEFL (minimum score 100/120) also accepted on application

Logged hours are based on full time equivalent employment (38 hours per week)
Pro rata applied as a percentage of employed hours. Please note ACAud inc. HAASA Secretariat to be advised of employed hours.
At Elbow/Virtual Supervision:
- Level 1 Elbow Supervision – Supervisor is in the same room (Elbow) with the Full Member – Intern & client for the duration of the consultations. The Supervisor has no caseload during this time and is 100% available for the Full Member – Intern’s caseload.
- Level 2 Elbow Supervision – Supervisor is in the same room with the Full Member – Intern & client for the duration of the consultations. The Supervisor has no caseload during this time and is 100% available for the Full Member – Intern’s caseload.
- Level 2 Virtual Supervision – Supervisor must be online in virtual meeting/s with Full Member – Intern & client for the duration of the consultations. The Supervisor has no case load during this time and is 100% available for the Full Member – Intern’s caseload.
General Supervision:
- Level 2 General Supervision – Supervisor must be available via phone, conference call or in person.
- Level 3 General Supervision – Supervisor must be available via phone, conference call or in person.
Supervisor Requirements:
- Primary Supervisor (required) – must hold and have held Full Membership with an Australian PPB (Practitioner Professional Body*) for a minimum of 3 years.
- Secondary Supervisor (optional) – must hold Full Membership with an Australian PPB (Practitioner Professional Body*).
Documentation to Submit:
- Supervisory Plan must be submitted to and approved by ACAud inc. HAASA prior to the commencement of supervision.
- Logbooks and supervision reports must be submitted at the completion of each level of supervision, in order to progress to the next level of supervision.
Examinations:
- Mid Term Examination: Nearing completion of Level 2, Full Member – Interns are required to sit the Mid Term Examination. Upon passing the examination and submission of required documentation, Full Member – Interns may then progress to Level 3. A fee of $110 incl. GST is payable prior to the examination.
- Final Examination (audiometrists): Upon completion of Level 3, Full Member – Interns (audiometrists) are required to sit the Hearing Rehabilitation Specialist (HRS) Case Study Examination. A fee of $860 incl. GST is payable prior to the examination. A person deemed Not Yet Competent in the HRS Case Study Examination on the third attempt is no longer eligible to apply for re-examination. A request for special consideration submitted to the ACAud inc. HAASA Board will be reviewed; however, it must clearly detail the reasons for the exemption being sought.
- Final Examination (audiologists): Full Member – Intern (audiologists) are required to sit a the Diagnostic Rehabilitation Specialist (DRS) Examination. This is a 3.5 hour online examination held in April and October each year, that can be taken at any level of supervision. A fee of $990 incl. GST is payable prior to the examination.
Qualifying for Full Membership:
Once the supervision program has been completed and the final examination has been passed, a Full Member – Intern may then be upgraded to a Full Member of ACAud inc. HAASA. As a Full Member of ACAud inc. HAASA you will be eligible to apply for a Qualified Practitioner number with the Office of Hearing Services.
